About Me

He is the President of the Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE) in 2018 – 2021 and also Deputy Director of the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI) FKUI. Currently, he also serves as Secretary-General of the Asian Society for Fertility Preservation (ASFP), an obstetrics and gynecology organization in the Asian Region.

In Indonesia, he served as President of the Indonesian Association for IVF (IA-IVF) for the 2016-2021 period and Secretary-General for the Indonesian Collegium of Obstetrics and Gynecology (POGI). He is also the Chairman of International Relations of the Indonesian Medical Association (IMA).

Prof. Budi Wiweko was recently appointed as Chair of the Indonesian Health Technology Review Committee of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and a member of the Indonesian National Academy of Sciences in 2020. After graduating as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology from the University of Indonesia in 2005, he spent time as a researcher on Ovarian tissue vitrification and in vitro follicular culture at Hyogo College of Medicine, Japan. He continued his research in the basic laboratory on ART and attended several clinical IVF training in Osaka, Barcelona, ​​Thailand, and Vietnam. Prof. Budi Wiweko defended his Ph.D. thesis on “pre-antral follicular vitrification” at the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Indonesia in 2014. Then continued his studies to earn a master’s degree in public health from Gadjah Mada University – Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Former FKUI Research Manager (2014-2018) who contributed a lot to building research and innovation at FKUI and the development of IMERI. He has also contributed a lot to developing the IVF field in Indonesia because he is one of the founders of the Indonesian Association for IVF (IA-IVF) which was founded in 2009. Apart from providing services, Prof. Budi Wiweko is also the coach’s coordinator. Sub-specialty Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship at the Teaching Hospital, University of Indonesia.

His research on AMH, iCOS, and ovarian tissue vitrification is published in local and international journals and ART conferences such as ASPIRE, ESHRE, and the IFFS annual meeting. To date, he has published 106 original articles in Scopus indexed international journals and 36 original articles indexed by Pub-Med, with h – index 9.

He has won many awards nationally and internationally, including the Best Graduate Award from FKUI 2005, Best Indonesian Young Midwifery and Gynecology Award 2005 (Tadjuludin Award), 2007 Asia Pacific Young Gynecologist Award, Best Indonesian Paper Award 2009 (Sarwono Award) Best Researcher FKUI 2009, 2010, 2011, Asia Pacific Best Paper 2014, First Winner of Best Lecturer University of Indonesia 2015, First Winner of Best Lecturer Indonesia 2015, UI Innovation Award, Gynecologist Innovation Award 2015 (Makelew Award), Indonesian Best Paper Awards 2009 (Sarwono Award), Best Indonesian Innovator 2016 (First Place and Second Place Innovation 2016). His latest innovation was selected as the 112 Best Innovations in Indonesia 2020.

Prof. Budi Wiweko conducted and published many studies on ART, especially in AMH, individually controlled ovarian stimulation (iCOS), ovarian tissue vitrification, and embryo metabolomics. He is one of the AMH experts in the Asian region since he developed the AMH nomogram and AMH-based iCOS formula which are essential for the everyday practice of infertility. The product is Indonesia Calculator Oocytes (IKO) which has been patented and registered in the play store and apple store and used all over the world.

Currently, Prof. Budi Wiweko is a member of the advisory board of Merck Serono Asia Pacific and is very active in many regional organizations such as the Pacific Rim Fertility Society (PRFS), European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), International Federation of Fertility Society (IFFS), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), International Society for Fertility Preservation (ISFP) and American Association for Gynecology Laparoscopy (AAGL). She is currently working on developing ovarian tissue cryopreservation in Indonesia and establishing the Asian Society of Fertility Preservation (ASFP) as a founding member.
