Jakarta, Indonesia – The Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (PDIB – FKUI) and the Doctoral Program in Biomedical Sciences Student Association (HIMA – PDIB) have completed their Community Service (PengMas) activities on February 8, 2025 at the As-Salam Musala, RW I, Bojong Pondok Terong Village, Cipayung, Depok, West Java. The PengMas activities in 2025 are still the same as in 2024, namely focusing on health education and also health checks with the theme “Kampung Tanggap Tuberkulosis, RW 1, Bojong Pondok Terong Village, Cipayung, Depok, West Java”, with the aim of providing an understanding in understanding, preventing, and treating tuberculosis among the RW 1 Community, Bojong Pondok Terong Village.
Tuberculosis (TB) is still a significant health problem in Indonesia. This disease not only impacts individual health but also has profound social and economic effects. In RW 1, Bojong Pondok Terong Village, Cipayung, Depok, the level of public awareness about TB is still low. Many residents are reluctant to start treatment because of the stigma and the assumption that TB is a disgrace. In fact, TB is an infectious disease that can be cured with proper treatment. This condition requires educational intervention that directly involves the community.
This program has several main objectives. First, to increase public understanding of TB, including symptoms, transmission, prevention, and treatment. Second, to reduce the social stigma against TB in the environment, especially in the RW 1 area. Third, to empower local health cadres to support TB prevention and control. Finally, to form a community that is responsive to TB so that it can create an environment that is more caring and active in handling TB cases.
The “Kampung Tanggap Tuberkulosis” activity is designed to provide education, reduce stigma, and increase compliance with TB treatment. This activity includes several main steps. First, an educational seminar on TB will be held which will present expert speakers to provide basic knowledge regarding TB, its symptoms, and treatment steps. Second, an interactive discussion will be held between residents and health cadres to explore problems and solutions that are relevant to local conditions. Finally, participants will receive educational materials and souvenirs as a form of support and motivation to increase their awareness. Hopefully this activity will be useful and further increase our awareness of the importance of early detection and proper TB treatment.
